Is Cocaine Really That Bad?

Question by : Is cocaine really that bad?
All my life everyone had told me not to do drugs and how “addictive” they are. But to me it doesn’t seem like some are. Cocaine, for example. I know people, who do cocaine. They are normal teenagers, they go to school and some are even in academic classes. My friend, told me he does cocaine about twice a month. If it’s so addictive, wouldn’t he need to do it every day? Soo my question basically is, is it even addictive?

In General, Are Serotonin Agonists Less Addictive Than Dopamine Agonists?

Question by Blue: In general, are serotonin agonists less addictive than dopamine agonists?

Best answer:

Answer by J.SWAMY I
Both act at receptor level .So must be equally effective

Answer by Mathieu
Dopamine is the “master molecule of addiction.” Dopamine is a reinforcing neurotransmitter so anything that brings you joy or things you want to do or are looking forward to doing is all due to dopamine. All drugs of abuse (not necessarily hallucinogens) increase dopamine. As a result the body can have urges and cravings for a drug because the brain is trying to get you to do something rewarding. Sex causes the release of dopamine more so than anything else (aside from drugs). Food also increases dopamine substantially. The reason why those two activities are so tied into dopamine is because it is necessary for the survival of the species for people to eat and have children. Since the brain sees that as most important it rewards more for that.

How Did the Coca-Cola Company Stay in Business?

Question by Ask Me?: How did the Coca-Cola company stay in business?
How did they manage to stay in business when people found out there were illegal drugs in there? or was it legal back then? Just out of curiosity, were any arrests made against the owners?

Best answer:

Answer by class of ’13
When they found this out, it was a long time ago, so they just took it out without a penalty. I wish it was still added though.

Answer by Miss Missy W
Cocaine was legal back then. As was Codeine and a few other pretty addictive drugs. Once things were made illegal, businesses stopped putting such “ingredients” into their products.

What Is the Difference Between “addiction” and “Normal Behavor”? Or…..?

Question by Seeker Of Painful Truths 2: What is the difference between “addiction” and “normal behavor”? Or…..?
…Or is it normal behavior to be addicted to many elements in life?

I ask because every time I read some info about what an “addiction” is, the more the experts explain away their points, the more it sounds like everything or most things is an addiction. That makes it difficult for me to narrow down what an addiction actually is. Just simply using drugs and alcohol and sex to explain it clouds the core of what an addiction is.
