Leo Burnett – Cocaine Unwrapped – One Line – Don’t panic that this appears to be just a black screen – this is a piece of sound design….. This is an experiential sound piece played before the screening of Rachel Seifert’s documentary, Cocaine Unwrapped, in order to highlight how the use of cocaine by people in the UK affects the lives of people in Columbia. When the lights went down in the cinema, this piece of sound design was played, immersing the audience and setting the mood for the screening. It puts you in a thumping club atmosphere where a young couple are heard disappearing into a toilet cubicle to cut and snort a line of cocaine. As the cocaine causes a gagging coughing reflex action, the sound seamlessly turns into the rhythm of gunshots being fired in a Mexican town, where people scatter. We hear a grieving mother at the scene, who attends her dying son, howling in shock and bereavement over his death.
